 This is a Trek 4500 WSD Alumninum 16″  Frame, Everything functions properly and all gears shift smoothly without hesitation. or skipping between gears. 2009 Surly Travelers Check Road Frame 58cm Sns Coupling Low Miles Great Shape

 This is a 2009 Surly Travelers Check used Road Frame and Fork, size 58cm, 700c, 4130 Chromoly, that has VERY low miles, and is in great shape.  The headtube measures 140mm (the steerer tube extends 67mm above the headset) and the toptube measures 58cm, with a traditional 68mm english threaded bottom bracket shell.  This is being sold for a customer who has many bikes, and it only has about 10 rides on it. Why is it called the Travelers Check, you ask?  Well, the frame features SNS couplings so that it can be separated into 2 pieces to make traveling and packing it easier!  This bicycle can be run with a derailleur or as a singlespeed and would be great for commuting or cyclocross (this was actually being used as a singlespeed only).The frame and fork are in excellent shape, only showing the most minimal signs of wear and no damage to the frame or fork (just some random marks from leaning the frame on other bikes).  Please take a look at the pics and we could always take more pics if necessary.Also included are the Cane Creek headset and the seatpost clamp.

Selling my 18″Surly 1X1. This bike is a few years old (2006) but is in great shape. It has been raced and ridden a lot but well taken care of the whole time. Great Condition, a few VERY light marks on it

Here you find the venerable 1X1, the frame whose name is synonymous with singlespeeds the same way people call facial tissue Kleenex. The 1X1 was designed for 26″ wheels, big tires, and single gear and cog drivetrains, like freewheeled singlespeeds, fixedgear, and even internal geared hubs. No derailleur hanger, no housing stops or line guides for derailleurs. The 1X1 is simple, durable and beautiful.

It’s made of Surly 4130 CroMoly, with a custom doublebutted main triangle and triplebutted fork blades for a tough yet responsive, lively ride. Adding to that ride feel is its geometry which is, well, simple. It rides like a mountain bike. The chainstays are heat treated to add to its durability. It still has rim brake pivots. They’re removeable in case you want to clean up the look when you run disc brakes.

This year we’ve updated some of its design features, something we’ve done rarely over its life. We lowered the toptube a bit to increase stand-over clearance and also made it compatible with 100mm suspension forks. As well, the rear disc caliper mounting plate has been redesigned to allow easier rear wheel removal and installation…no more loosening the adapter bolts to allow the rotor to clear the caliper.

The 1X1 rides like a bike, without a lot of fussin’ and fightin’. This is a frame you keep, a frame you use for years and years. It has been around since the very early daze of Surly, and it remains one of our favorites.

Todays geared bikes are really marvels of technology, and let a cyclist select the gear ratio that will make the most efficient use of their energy. If what you’re after is getting the maximum possible speed and distance for the minimum amount of effort a geared bike is what you should stay with…but, efficiency isn’t for everyone and most riders love a challenge.

Wether you’re riding for pleasure, or for exercise, you don’t necessarily place that high a premium on output results, as measured in speed, distance or vertical climb. Instead, you may care more about the actual experience of riding your bike. In this case, a single speed may be right up your alley.

Riding a single speed can help bring back the absolute joy you experienced riding your bike as a child. You don’t realize how much mental energy is involved in shifting until you cut free of your derailers, and discover that a whole part of your brain that was formerly wondering when to shift is now free to enjoy your surroundings and sensations.

A single speed is, in another sense more efficient than a geared bike! While the single gear ratio will not be the most precise gear ratio for all conditions, in the conditions which fit the single gear, it is considerably more efficient mechanically than the drivetrain of a bike with derailers.

A single speed bike dispenses with the weight of the derailers, shifters, cables, extra gears and the loud longer chain. In addition, a single speed gear train runs the chain in a perfectly straight line from wheel to front chain ring, and avoids the serpentine wind through the pulleys of a derailer. You can really feel the difference! A single speed is noticeably quicker and easier to pedal than a geared bike in the same gear ratio.

Single speed bikes are also considerably more sturdy and reliable than geared bikes. There’s no derailer to bash if the bike falls over, catch on the rock/stumps or to get overshifted into the spokes of your wheel. The rear wheel itself is a lot stronger than one made with off-center (dished) spoking to make room for a whole bunch of sprockets on one side.

So go for it, build a single speed and ride free !!!
